This year, Erik and I spent our first Christmas away from family. It was hard for u
s to get into the Christmas spirit with Erik still having to work and do school assignments. So, to help us out, we made big plans for Christmas Eve, we watched A Charlie Brown Christmas, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town and that evening we were going to go to Celebration in the Oaks, and then to see the bonfires on the levee, however, Jordyn had different plans. She wasn't feeling so well that night, so we ended up having a quiet night at home. We gave Jordyn her bath and then Erik read us The Very First Christmas by Paul L Maier. Then we put our little one to bed. Then Erik was off to the computer and I to the kitchen (an exciting Christmas Eve, I know). Christmas morning Erik was able to go into work late so we were 
able to sleep in and open presents. There wasn't much under our tree this year, but I think Erik put it best when he said that Santa came to our house early this year. We got our best gift on September 4 when Jordyn joined our family. Jordyn was quite fascinated with the bows on her presents and was actually able to get a good enough grip to rip a few of them off. Then she just wanted to chew on the boxes and wrapping paper. After a quite morning at home, we all went to work with Erik for a few hours. The afternoon was filled with a bit more excitement as Elders White and Gordon came over to join us for 
Christmas dinner. We had a good visit with the missionaries, and it made for a perfect ending to a good day. Though Erik and I weren't fond of the idea of being away from close friends and family for Christmas, we ended up really enjoying the quite Christmas at home, it helped us to focus on the true meaning of Christmas and the amazing gift our Heavenly Father gave us, His Son. We now look forward to spending many quiet Christmas' at home focusing on the Birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. We hope that all of our friends and family had a great Christmas and that they were able to enjoy the season and give thanks for that special gift that gives us reason to celebrate.

I'm glad you guys had such a good Christmas. Once we started doing our "own" Christmases, we felt the same way. I don't think we'll ever travel for Christmas again. We always miss our families, but it's so nice to spend some quiet relaxing time together just us. We love doing it that way now!
