12 week Ultrasound Pictures

One blessing of having a high risk pregnancy with twins is that we get to have an ultrasound and EVERY doctors apointment. Last week we saw both our regular OB and the high risk Dr. so we had 2 ultrasounds. Here are the pictures they gave us.

Pregnancy Update

I figured that while I'm laying here waiting for J and her Daddy to get home from gymnastics that I'll post an update on how things are going in the Zugner household. After a few days of giving myself shots twice a day, my medical team got together and decided that once a day should be good enough (YEAH!) so I've been doing that for the past couple of weeks. At first the shots weren't too bad, but now they're starting to sting and bruise really bad. I also find that I bruise everywhere more easily. I just keep reminding myself that it's what's best for the babies. Last week we had an ultrasound with the Radiology Dept. for our regular OB. Everything looked good, from this ultrasound they were able to tell that the babies are diamniotic - monochorinonic (identical) twins. They're both growing well (ahead of schedule by a few days actually). We had another quick ultrasound on Monday with the OB, she does them at every appointment to check the heartbeats. During most pregnancies they use a Doppler to hear the heartbeat, but a Doppler can't detect 2 heartbeats so my OB does an ultrasound so she can physically check to make sure both are doing ok. Then this past Wednesday we meet with the High Risk Dr. for the first time. He was really nice. He too did an ultrasound. He said everything looks good, though he does want to see us again in a month to check for Twin-to-twin-transfusion (a problem that arises in 10-15% of twins when they share a single placenta). During the ultrasound he asked us if we wanted to know what we were having, this surprised us because we were only 12.5 wks, but of course we said YES! He said he's 95% sure that they're BOYS. So, we're being well taken care of by our doctors. As for me, I'm feeling okay. I can usually get up and get things done in the morning, but by 2-3 in the afternoon I'm done. I think a lot of it has to do with the heat. I'm exhausted, have no appetite and usually get headaches in the early afternoon, but if I take a couple of Tylenol and lay down for a few hours then by 6 -7 I'm doing much better. We've been very fortunate to have good doctors and good friends that have been more than willing to help out. We have a couple of weeks of no appointments so we're going to take advantage of our free time and try to get things at the house ready for the little ones.

At the 9 week ultrasound, the babies looked like little beans so J calls them the beanie babies, and even though they're looking more like humans than food at 11 weeks, she still calls them the beanie babies.

Utah Vacation Post #5

I'm on a roll today so I figured I might as well finish our Utah vacation posts, that's right this is the last one (its about time since we got home from our vacation over a month ago)! After the excitement of Disneyland we decided to take it easy, that and on our last night in California, J accidentally scratched my eye (you could actually see the fingernail mark on my eyeball, ouch!) so I was out of commission for a few days. Fortunately the eye healed fine. On one of our last days there we took J to visit Uncle Scott at work. She was able to get in the track hoe with him and dig in the dirt. J thought this was the coolest thing ever and every time we see a track hoe she points it out and says, "that's what Uncle Scott drives". Then, as a special treat, Aunt Heather made J a princess cake just for fun. J is convinced that it was her birthday cake, she LOVED it. I don't think she was too happy when everyone started to eat it! Thanks Uncle Scott and Aunt Heather for being so AWESOME!

The following weekend was Easter weekend so everyone had Friday off of school and work so we convinced my Dad to take us to Disneyland for the weekend (thanks Dad!). We drove down Thursday night and spent Friday, Saturday and part of Sunday at the park. It was a quick trip filled with long days at the park, but we had fun. Saturday afternoon J had a major meltdown from the lack of sleep, but once we took her back to the hotel for a nice long nap she did much better. J wasn't a fan of the rides. The only ones she really liked were the carousel and the dumbo ride, I think this is because those are the only 2 kids rides that aren't in the dark. Her favorite part was meeting the characters. When we first got there, we bought her a book to have her new friends sign and she LOVED that and still talks about friends that she needs to have sign her book! Here's a few of her new friends. . . at first she was a little nervous about meeting them so Mommy or Daddy had to go with her, but then she figured out what to do and didn't want any help.

Sunday was Easter and the Easter Bunny found J all the way in California! He even hid eggs for her and her cousin Keegan to find. He's such a smart bunny.

The Monday after we got back from snowmobiling we headed up to Logan to see my Grandma. My mom was able to come with us and we stopped in Provo on the way up and picked up my little sister. We were also able to stop in SLC and have dinner with some of Erik's friends. I'm glad that he was able to have such a good visit with his friends, he hasn't seen them since we were married almost 5 yrs ago. After dinner we finished our trek up to Logan and stayed the night at my Grandma's house. We were able to spend most of the day with her on Tuesday before heading home. I love going to visit my Grandma, she's one of my favorite people in the whole world. I don't get to see her very often so we always try to make the trip up to Logan when we're in Utah. It's a long drive but it's definitely worth it. We LOVE you Grandma!!!

Our next adventure took us to Kolob Mountain where my parents have a cabin. My whole family was able to go and between all of us, it took 2 arctic cats and 4 snowmobiles to get us up the mountain. J isn't a big fan of snowmobiles so my wonderful SIL took J with her in one of the arctic cats while hung on for dear life while riding behind Erik on a snowmobile. The ride up was a bit windy since a storm was coming in and by the time we reached the cabin it was starting to snow on us. The next morning was a beautiful day so we headed out right after breakfast. While we were getting ready to go, J entertained herself with the icicles that hang from the eves while Keegan watches. We found a slight hill near where we tried our hand at tubing. Once we got the hang of it people started getting daring and going double on the tubs. J enjoyed catching a ride with whomever she could. She really wanted to go by herself but she was too small to fit on the tubes alone, we eventually got a small plastic container for her to sit in and slide down the hill. Everyone was having such a good time (and some we're a little to impatient to wait for the tube) so Aunt Heather went back to the cabin and brought us a second tube. Which made the possibilities for fun endless! In fact, it's a fun (and a bit scary) to think of what you can do with a snowmobile, rope and 2 inner tubes. Uncle Scott was the first one to test the set up, after a couple of single runs, the second tube was tied on. While everyone was taking their turns on the tubes, grandpa attempted to take J for a ride on the snowmobile, it didn't last very long. All this activity wore everyone out, including the dogs (who had been out frolicking in the snow all day with the rest of us)!
